Does Invisalign Work Faster Than Braces?

April 19, 2023

Are you dealing with tooth alignment or bite issues? Well, you might not have to go through traditional orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign is a popular orthodontic alternative that can provide a discreet way to get a straight smile. But does this mean you’ll have to wait longer to get the results you want?

Not exactly. Check out this short blog post to discover how Invisalign compared to braces regarding treatment timeline.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of clear aligner that can straighten your teeth and fix dental malocclusion issues such as overbites or underbites.

The process involves wearing clear trays for around 22 hours every single day. The aligners put pressure on the teeth, which slowly moves them to their most optimal position to correct your smile.

Throughout your treatment, you’ll need to wear multiple sets of trays.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

Invisalign treatment involves a few key steps:

  • Initial consultation: First, it’s important to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign. If you’re dealing with mild to moderate issues, then the trays are likely a good match for you.
  • Dental scans: If you’re a good candidate, your dentist will take some scans of your teeth and send them to an Invisalign facility, where they will make your custom trays. Based on these scans, you can also learn the number of trays you’ll need to correct your alignment issues.
  • Treatment starts: When your trays are ready, you’ll go to the dental practice to pick up your first pair and start your treatment. Your dentist will provide some tips on how to properly care for your teeth, such as how long to wear your trays, how to clean them, and more;
  • Follow-up: You’ll need to keep coming for appointments throughout your treatment so your progress can be monitored. You’ll also switch to new trays every 2 weeks or so, depending on how your teeth respond to the treatment.
  • End of treatment: When your teeth are perfectly aligned, you’ll be fitted for a pair of retainers, which you’ll need to wear to prevent the teeth from moving back to their original position.

Does Invisalign Work Faster Than Braces?

Usually, yes, Invisalign works faster than braces. There are two possible reasons.

First, Invisalign trays are all custom made, so they are more precise when moving your teeth than metal braces.

But, since Invisalign cannot treat severe alignment issues, the treatment length is often much shorter.

Severe bite and alignment issues obviously require more extensive orthodontic interventions.
